چکیده

We describe simple and exact duals, and certificates of infeasibility and weak infeasibility in conic linear programming which do not rely on any constraint qualification, and retain most of the simplicity of the Lagrange dual. In particular, some of our infeasibility certificates generalize the row echelon form of a linear system of equations, and the “easy” proofs – as sufficiency of a certificate to prove infeasibility – will be trivial. For many cones of interest, we provide an algorithm to generate all infeasible conic LP instances. For semidefinite programs we provide an algorithm to generate all weakly infeasible instances in a natural class. As a byproduct, we obtain some fundamental geometric corollaries: an exact characterization of when the linear image of a closed convex cone is closed; an exact characterization of nice cones; and bounds on the number of constraints that can be dropped from, or added to a (weakly) infeasible conic LP while keeping it (weakly) infeasible. We generate a public domain library of infeasible and weakly infeasible semidefinite programs. The status of our instances is easy to verify by inspection in exact arithmetic, but they turn out to be challenging for commercial and research codes.

New stopping criteria for detecting infeasibility in conic optimization

Detecting infeasibility in conic optimization and providing certificates for infeasibility pose a bigger challenge than in the linear case due to the lack of strong duality. In this paper we generalize the approximate Farkas lemma of Todd and Ye [12] from the linear to the general conic setting, and use it to propose stopping criteria for interior point algorithms using self-dual embedding. The...

SPECTRA -a Maple library for solving linear matrix inequalities in exact arithmetic

This document briefly describes our freely distributed Maple library spectra, for Semidefinite Programming solved Exactly with Computational Tools of Real Algebra. It solves linear matrix inequalities in exact arithmetic and it is targeted to small-size, possibly degenerate problems for which symbolic infeasibility or feasibility certificates are required.

An Exact Duality Theory for Semidefinite Programming Based on Sums of Squares

Farkas’ lemma is a fundamental result from linear programming providing linear certificates for infeasibility of systems of linear inequalities. In semidefinite programming, such linear certificates only exist for strongly infeasible linear matrix inequalities. We provide nonlinear algebraic certificates for all infeasible linear matrix inequalities in the spirit of real algebraic geometry: A l...

Understanding the Geometry of Infeasible Perturbations of a Conic Linear System

We discuss some properties of the distance to infeasibility of a conic linear system Ax = b; x 2 C; where C is a closed convex cone. Some interesting connections between the distance to infeasibility and the solution of certain optimization problems are established. Such connections provide insight into the estimation of the distance to infeasibility and the explicit computation of infeasible p...

A new approach to rank the decision making units in presence of infeasibility in intuitionistic fuzzy environment

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a linear programming based methodology to determine the relative performance efficiencies of homogeneous decision making units (DMUs). In real world applications, some input and output datas do not possess crisp/fuzzy essence but they possess intuitionistic fuzzy (IF) essence. So, in this study, we develop an IF BCC (IFBCC) and an IF super efficiency BCC (IFSE...
